Organic is undoubtedly the way to go. But how do we sustain the land's ability to support the growing movement toward organic -- well -- everything? The answer is permaculture and while it can be described as farming and gardening with a focus on the relationships between animals, plants, insects, soil, water and habitat -- and how to use these relationships to create synergistic, self-supporting ecosystems, it is better explained in the video clip at the end of this post, by author Michael Pollan.
Take the time to listen -- this is the way we are going to need to grow our food if the earth is to continue to provide us with healthy food. Pollan, who has been writing about nature for the past 25 years, is the author of many books including two of my favorites: The Botony of Desire and The Omnivore's Dilemma (named one of the ten best books of 2006 by The New York Times and The Washington Post).
