Noted ecological biologist David Blume has been promoting his book, Alcohol Can Be A Gas and continues to talk about the importance of alcohol-based fuels, and of how the oil industry has worked against the developement of alternative fuel sources. Many of the early cars, Model T for example, were flex fuel (running on either gas or alcohol), and Henry Ford was an advocate for alcohol fuel. But, he was fiercely opposed by John D. Rockefeller who pushed for Prohibition, which stopped the manufacture of alcohol for any purpose, Blume detailed.
Alcohol is cheaper than gas and is a superior fuel, leaving no carbon behind, engines last longer, and it can free the USA from foreign dependence. There are over twenty different food crops that can produce alcohol, and many of them, such as sugar beets, produce more alcohol per acre than corn!
Most cars can operate on as much as 50% alcohol, without needing for any kind of conversion device, Blume proclaims, and kits can be added to vehicles for less than $300. Consumers can get permits to create home distilleries to make their own alcohol fuel, which enables them to be eligible for tax credits, Blume notes. As an advocate for community organizing, Blume said in many towns residents have set up driver-owned stations which offer alcohol pumps. Learn more about Mr Blume and his studies at his site, here. An interesting option that nations should explore further, especially in light of $4.00 per gallon gas prices in the USA !!
