release. As Durst recently told the British music pub, NME: "I'm having a great feeling about going in and doing our record, more than I have about any of our albums before. It's not going to be a watered-down version of Limp Bizkit, it's going to be a more explosive, more addictive, more driven version of Limp Bizkit."
MUSIC NEWS - Often citied by critics and fans as one of the inventors of the alt-country music genre that rose up in the 80s/90s, the Jayhawks have returned with original line-up, appearing together for the first time together since 1995. Co-founder Mark Olson left the Jayhawks in 1995 but has returned to the lineup with co-leader Gary Louris (and bassist Marc Perlman, drummer/-vocalist Tim O’Reagan, and Karen Grotberg on keyboards and vocals). The re-united band played several music festivals in Europe and are booked to play their first USA show this Friday in Minneapolis at the Basilica Block Party (8:45 - 10:15pm).
Olson had a disdain for the "rock star life" that took over the Jayhawks and quit the band. He toured Europe and released albums as the Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers. The Jayhawks kept on without him, releasing out three more albums, 1997's Sound of Lies, Smile (2000) and Rainy Day Music (2003), before Louris finally annouced the band as dead in 2005. For nearly six years, Olson and Louris didn't talk to each other often until they got back together in 2002 to write a song for a movie. They started touring as a duo and earlier this year released an album via New West Records, "Ready for the Flood," produced by Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. But now, all has changed!
And tomorrow, Sony Legacy will release "Music From the North Country: The Jayhawks Anthology" (order below thru MNN), a collection that spans the Minneapolis band's history from Twin/Tone Records through American Recordings. It'll be out as a single CD or a two-CD-plus-DVD package that includes Jayhawks music videos. In September, Sony Legacy will start re-releasing the Jayhawks' five major-label releases, with bonus tracks.
MUSIC NEWS - Orem, Utah rocker's, The Used, who've been exciting fans by with new songs at the Bamboozle and Bamboozle Left Festivals and at their recent headlining shwos, have announced the release of their 4th studio album, Artwork, for a September 1, 2009 release via Reprise Records. And, starting July 21, a deluxe pre-order package of the album will be available at their website.
Produced by Matt Squire, Artwork is said to be a raw collection of eleven songs that not so delicately teeter the line between being aggressively discordant and charmingly hooky. The first single, “Blood On My Hands” premiered June 30 and sold over five thousand copies on day one and shot to #9 on the iTunes Alternative Chart. The track, which guitarist Quinn Allman describes as the song that “sums up everything about The Used” hits radio stations July 14th, but buy it here
via MNN.
“This record is more sincere,” Allman says. “It’s got a sound more reminiscent of the first record. Lyrically, it completely engulfs you and makes you feel safe but it’s all about feeling alone and empty and knowing there’s always a light. If you’re frustrated that much it means you care that much. The lyrics carry you through the record and you’re right with Bert and where he’s at. The music isn’t showing off. It’s just being what it is. I think the fans will appreciate all that.”
MUSIC NEWS - Foo Fighters had the honor this weekend of joining President Obama for a special July 4 USO concert on the South Lawn, where they entertained an audience of over 1200 active military troops and families for a private concert, BBQ and fireworks display. The attendees were treated not only to a selection of FF favorites, but saw the band's first ever live performance of the brand new tune, "Wheels." The studio version of "Wheels" will be one of two new tracks the band has recorded with producer Butch Vig for an as yet untitled collection due out this November.
The new tracks--all recorded by Foo Fighters core foursome Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett this year at Foo Fighters' own 606 studio complex, are said to hold their ground alongside FF classics. We look forward to hearing their new work !

MUSIC NEWS - Former music entrepreneur / manager Allen Klein, a no-holds-barred businessman who called himself a "shark" and who was known as a tenacious fighter for his cleints, which included the Beatles and the Rolling Stones has died. Born in Newark, NJ, he was 77 and lived in NYC.
A publicist for Klein's company, ABKCO Music & Records, says Klein died today at his New York City home of Alzheimer's disease. Klein became one of the most powerful figures in the music world in the 1960 and was known for his strong methods in getting his clients and in orchestrating better record deals. He represented clients that also including Sam Cooke, Bobby Darin and Herman's Hermits but was was best known for signing up the Rolling Stones in the 1960s, and later, the Beatles. Both arrangements eventually resulted in lawsuits, with some Beatles fans still blaming Klein for contributing to the problems that led to the Beatles break up. In 1971 Klein co-produced The Concert for Bangladesh with George
Harrison at Madison Square Garden, the first ever concert event at the
facility and the forerunner of every rock fund raising benefit on
behalf of a cause or charity. Following the Beatles split, he
continued to work with his close friends John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
Klein is survived by his longtime companion Iris Keitel, an ABKCO executive, his wife, Betty, and their three children, Robin, Jody and Beth, as well four grandchildren and his sister, Naomi. Services will be Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Riverside Memorial Chapel in NYC. Instead of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Alzheimer's Assn. of New York or the Juvenile Diabetes Assn.

MUSIC NEWS - The Sounds return with their third album, Crossing The Rubicon and new tour news (joining No Doubt on most dates). ...Rubicon is a career defining twelve song set that shows us the type of growth that can only come from a band in total command of their talents. Their synth-pop, guitar driven sound still takes center stage, but there's an ambition and sophistication to both the songs and production that reveals new layers of depth to the overall aesthetic. Recorded in Sweden, Los Angeles and NYC, Crossing the Rubicon
delivers hook-filled songs full of the punch and swagger that helped bring the band from Helsingborg to the world. With energy filled songs, like the dance electro-funk of "Beatbox," and the powerful combination of cockiness and pop synth on "Four Songs And A Fight," the new album presents a deeper version of the sound that established the band as one to watch THE SOUNDS on tour (full itinerary below).
And now, The Sounds have dished up their new single "No One Sleeps When I'm Awake" as a free mp3 beginning today!

Limp Bizkit got back together this year after an eight-year break, with the original line-up of Fred Durst, Wes Borland, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and DJ Lethal. Now on the road in Europe, the Las Vegas, NV gig was to be the only USA concert on their Unicorns N' Rainbows Tour.

recorded during R.E.M.'s "working rehearsals" at Dublin's Olympia Theatre in July 2007.
The tracklist is "Harborcoat," "Letter Never Sent," "Second Guessing," and "Pretty Persuasion." The EP is to give fans a preview of what's to come when the band release R.E.M. Live At The Olympia as a two-CD set this fall.
