The new Museum at Bethel Woods, NY opened recently and it’s well worth the trip upstate for an interesting visit. Located about two hours north of NYC, the Museum and it's beautiful Performing Arts Center (event schedule) are on a hill just above the original site of the 1969 "Woodstock Music and Arts Fair" in Bethel, NY where thousands attended for "peace, love and music".
The Museum is advertised as “the Story of the Sixties and Woodstock” and it certainly is. With state-of-the-art multimedia and interactive exhibits that chronicle the music, culture and politics of the most famous decade. You will see how the historical Festival got organized, why it took place on Yasgur’s Farm (50 miles from the town of Woodstock) and it's impact on society. You'll also experience the concert itself in a full surround audio and visual presentation with some never seen before materials and footage. And, you’ll hear Dennis Elsas (WFUV radio) as the “Voice of Rock History” throughout the Museum. The museum is for all ages, rock fan or not, young or old.
